Charming, cozy, welcoming-all of these terms have come to be recognized as the hallmarks of a cottage home. Comfort is always emphasized over grandeur. Simplicity of design, both inside and out, but with a little extra cherry on top in the form of lintels, ornamental brackets, trellises, shutters and of course, the ever-present window box. Spacious porches featuring columns, either round, square or tapered are common accents to the exterior of this architectural style. The cottage style roof is usually lower pitched and can extend past the exterior walls with exposed rafters. The exterior is most often horizontal wood siding with perhaps a wainscot of brick or stone. There is usually a crisp exterior color theme. The interiors of this style tend to incorporate built in bookcases and a focal fireplace. Cottage home style is often interchangeable with bungalow and craftsman style homes. There are also many elements of the Country style present with this architecture. We would be happy to talk with you about your home plan needs. Please call us at 830-730-0246.
