Southwest style homes are a product of the American West and showcase the influence of both the Spanish and Native American cultures. The exteriors of this style home are usually stucco or adobe and designed to the echo the shape and texture of the surrounding environment. These homes are frequently 1 story and asymmetrical in shape although 1 ½ or 2 story homes are not uncommon. Many times, an adjoining separate structure or casita is part of the arrangement and can serve as an office or guest house. Courtyards are a staple in Southwest style homes and can feature an outdoor fountain. Inside, the use of distressed beams, wrought iron and colorful and earthy colored tile add to the unique nature of this style. Windows and doors are placed for access to the outdoor areas which are covered and designed for outdoor seating and dining. One of our favorite design styles, Belk Design has a new and growing inventory of these beautiful and livable homes.
