Colonial Home Plans

Colonial Home Plans fall into many categories with the most common being Salt Box style, Cad Cod style Georgian style, Dutch colonial style, Spanish Dutch and French Colonial styles. Most of these styles are rectangular in shape. They are typically 2 stories high. Fireplaces are key elements in the design of Colonial Homes and are usually featured at one or both sides of the exterior elevation. The exterior is wood clapboard or shingle, but stone and brick are also used. Roof materials are shingle style and can include dormers. This style is known for adherence to a more symmetrical front elevation and is sometimes referred to a 5, 4 and a door meaning 5 windows on the second-floor front elevation and 4 windows and a center door on the first floor. Steep roof gables and exterior shutters add character to this charming and historical home style. Interiors tend to emphasize individual rooms with specific functionality.
