Southern Home Plans

Inspired by the southern aesthetic, this home style features either wood or brick exteriors. The roof is normally pitched and usually includes gabled dormers. Columns, either square or round, are prominently displayed on large porches which traditionally run the full length of the front exterior. Wrap around porches a well know part of southern design and rear covered porches are a standard. Elaborate porticos and cornices are not uncommon. The exterior is usually symmetrical in design and may display a balanced use of windows with a center door. The interiors of southern homes are designed for family gatherings with the kitchen as the hub of the design. Ceilings are tall and windows big to allow for warmer climates.
